Audio Designs and Custom Graphics in Jacksonville got a call from AAMP Global to complete a 2017 Chevy Silverado vinyl wrap for the latest addition to the Team Phantom fleet. AAMP Global is the company behind Phoenix Gold, Stinger, PAC, iSimple and Echomaster car audio products and accessories. Team Phantom is the name of AAMP Global’s retail support team. Each Team Phantom truck is equipped with products from the company’s brands to inform and educate dealers all over the nation.
Chevy Silverado Vinyl Wrap Design
The marketing team provided us with the background graphic design for the truck and the various logos they wanted to add. Using high-resolution photos of the truck and an extensive series of measurements, we created a template to position, size and align the logos to make each one prominent and easily visible. The background graphic is quite detailed and intricate, so getting it perfect took some time.
Vehicle Preparation Process
In the case of a full wrap like this, the vehicle needs some disassembly. We removed the taillights and door handles, the handle on the bed cover, the antenna on the roof and the emblems from the truck. Getting those elements out of the way allowed us to wrap under those areas for a clean and seamless look.
The first step in preparing to install the wrap is to wash down the vehicle and check over the paint surface to make sure it’s clean and free of contaminants that could cause bubbles or bumps in the wrap. We wipe the entire surface with a product called Rapid Remover to eliminate all greases and chemical contaminants. This final cleaning process ensures the vinyl remains adhered to the paint.
Wide-Format Vinyl Printing
While part of our team was preparing the truck, the rest of the guys were getting the vinyl ready to wrap the vehicle. We printed graphics on premium 3M Graphic Film, using our 64-inch wide Mutoh VJ-1624X industrial inkjet printer, several days before the truck arrived. After we print the vinyl, we let it sit for at least 24 hours to outgas and cure properly. Once the printed vinyl is ready, we load it into our laminating machine and apply a layer of 3M Scotchcal Gloss overlaminate. This coating gives the vinyl a high-gloss finish that looks almost like paint. The Scotchcal material also adds UV protection and increased durability to the graphics.
Thanks to our wide-format printer, we can print panels for the tonneau cover, roof and hood in a single piece. This eliminates the need for seams that detract from the overall look of the project.
Our team installed the wrap on the vehicle, working out air bubbles and smoothing the vinyl around the contours and curves at the edge of the panels. We use Cast Vinyl for all of our wrap installations. Once we wrap the vinyl around corners, we post heat it, and it sets the shape. This post-heating process prevents the vinyl from peeling off when it gets hot, especially where we had to stretch it. With everything reassembled, it’s nearly impossible to tell that this truck used to be silver.
Interior Vinyl Accents
The interior of the Silverado had several painted plastic panels that matched the exterior of the truck. We removed these panels and wrapped each of them with purple 3M vinyl to continue the theme. The panels included several dash trim pieces, a panel around the controls on the steering wheel, panels from the center console and each door.
Vinyl Graphics Make a Bold Marketing Statement
The AAMP Global team has been working hard to spread its message across the nation. With the addition of this 2017 Silverado vinyl wrap to the latest member of Team Phantom, we know the investment in training and customer service will continue to pay off.
